Working together to create communities we're proud of

Priority Action Areas 2026/27.

Every year, Westward carries out a review to identify neighbourhoods that would benefit most from additional support and investment through our Priority Action Areas (PAA) programme.
The programme focuses on working closely with customers and partner organisations to tackle local issues, improve neighbourhoods and strengthen community pride.

What happens when an area becomes a PAA?

When a neighbourhood is identified as a Priority Action Area, we work alongside customers to develop a Neighbourhood Action Plan (NAP).

The plan helps ensure local priorities are clearly identified and that everyone understands what improvements will be delivered.

Each neighbourhood action plan includes:

  • The key issues and concerns raised by customers
  • A clear action plan outlining what improvements are needed
  • Timescales for delivery
  • Regular progress reviews with customers

The plans are developed in partnership with customers because they know their communities best. By working together, we can focus on the issues that matter most and deliver lasting improvements.

Priority Action Areas for 2026/27

Following our annual review, the communities selected are:

  • Launceston Road, Bodmin (Comprising Bodwannick View, Cadwin Road and Lamorick Drive)
  • Pridham Place, Bideford

Over the coming year, we will work closely with customers living in these communities to identify priorities, develop action plans and deliver improvements that make a real difference.

Our focus will be on strengthening community involvement and ensuring customers play a central role in shaping the future of their neighbourhoods. We want everyone to feel proud of where they live and confident that their voice is helping to influence positive change.

Making a difference where it matters most

During 2025/26, our Priority Action Areas were:

  • Barton Tors, Bideford
  • Snowberry Close, Torquay

At Snowberry Close, customers, Westward colleagues and partner organisations came together to improve the local environment and make a visible difference to the neighbourhood.

By working together, we were able to create a cleaner, safer and more welcoming environment for everyone living in the community.

Work carried out on the day included:

  • Strimming pathways and grass verges
  • Clearing overgrown shrubs
  • Removing litter, fly tipping and bulky waste
  • Carrying out essential maintenance works
  • Providing plumbing support where needed

As well as improving the physical environment, the day provided a valuable opportunity to engage with customers, understand local concerns and work together on solutions. The result was a neighbourhood with tidier pathways, improved visibility, cleared communal areas and a safer, better maintained environment.
