Community action day at Grenville Estate and Crescent
Following reports of untidy outdoor areas at Grenville Estate and Crescent, we visited customers to better understand the challenges they were facing and discuss plans for the unwanted items.
Through conversations with customers, it became clear that many people wanted to clear their outdoor spaces but did not have the means, support or resources to remove bulky items themselves.
In response, we organised a community action day to help customers dispose of unwanted items free of charge. Ahead of the event, we wrote to every household in the area, providing details of the clean up day and inviting customers to let us know which items they needed collecting.

On Monday 10 August, customers placed their unwanted items outside their homes ready for collection. Blessed with brilliant sunshine, the day ran smoothly as our team worked their way through the estate collecting and removing items quickly and efficiently.
Alongside the bulky waste collection, our grounds maintenance team carried out a range of environmental improvements across the area. This included clearing overgrown pavements, cutting back bushes and brambles, clearing litter, and cutting grassed areas. Their work helped to brighten communal spaces and improve the overall appearance of the neighbourhood.

The day provided an opportunity to speak with customers and hear first hand what the support meant to them. Many expressed their appreciation for having items removed that had been causing concern for some time.
One customer said:
Thank you for this, what a weight off my mind. For years I've wanted the garden cleared but haven't had the ability to do it myself. Thank you.
By listening to customers and responding to their needs, we were able to remove practical barriers that had prevented many from improving their outdoor spaces. Initiatives such as this demonstrate the positive impact that can be achieved when customers and colleagues work together.
We are proud of what was accomplished at Grenville Estate and Crescent and grateful to everyone who played a part. Together, we have helped create a more welcoming environment that customers can take pride in and continue to enjoy.
