Loft insulation

Information and FAQs
Loft insulation is a material installed in the space directly beneath your roof to reduce heat loss from your home. By trapping warm air inside during winter and helping keep the property cooler in summer, it significantly improves energy efficiency and can reduce heating bills.
In the UK, around 25% of a home’s heat is estimated to escape through the roof, so properly insulating this area is one of the most effective ways to lower energy consumption and improve your EPC rating. Loft insulation works by creating a thermal barrier that prevents heat from rising out of the living space.
Most homes already have some insulation in place, but new guidance recommends a depth of around 300mm to achieve maximum benefit. This means we usually only need to add an additional layer over the existing insulation to bring it up to the recommended standard.

Yes, the loft space will need to be emptied prior to the works to allow safe access for our installers. This also prevents any potential damage to your personal belongings and allows insulation to be laid evenly.
Any concerns, including health or mobility issues, can be discussed with the property liaison officer. We can arrange for the loft to be cleared which maybe rechargeable.
We recommend that you do not store items in the loft space in general but also as this can compress the newly laid insulation which will reduce the thermal performance by over 50%.
