Our board and executive team

Our governance structure includes a board of non-executive and executive board members. The board provides leadership, direction, support and challenge. Our executive team is responsible for delivering services.
We also have an Audit and Assurance Committee which operates on these terms of reference and a Remuneration and Membership Committee which operates on these terms of reference.
Customers sit on our scrutiny group to review our services in line with our commitment to co-regulation.

Stephen has worked in housing for more than 30 years. He joined Westward in October 2024 and as chief executive he is responsible for leading all of the business affairs and related services including development, support and asset management.
Stephen is a board member of housing association, Amplius, and chairs the development, assets and investment committee. Prior to joining Westward, Stephen was at Abri housing association where he worked for eight years as executive director of development and strategic asset management. Previously, he has held directorial roles at The Guinness Partnership and Aster.
Stephen’s career spans more than 30 years. He began working in direct access night shelters for the homeless. His experience has been built with a range of housing associations and a
local authority, where he has held roles in housing management, strategy and policy, development, asset management, planned investment and response repairs.
Stephen is passionate about delivering a great service that respects and recognises diversity of need, and of belief. Stemming from the very start of his career, volunteering in direct access hostels for the homeless, Stephen appreciates how having access to a safe and secure home and an appropriate support network, be that friends, family, or professionals, can be the catalyst for so many other life chances. Outside of work Stephen volunteers with the Samaritans.
