Work begins on Stucley Road play area revamp

Westward was delighted to receive Section 106 developer contribution money to improve the play equipment at Stucley Road play area in Bideford. Stucley Road play area

An online consultation was carried out earlier this year to gauge the park’s usage and to receive residents’ opinions on suitable equipment.

Customer Involvement Officer, Terry Leech said: “We had a great response and it gave us a lot to think about.  Residents were asked to vote on their preferred equipment and we have worked with contractors to put as much of this in place as we can.”

Westward is delighted to announce the installation of a multi-play unit including a hopper see-saw, a crazy daisy springer, a crazy dragon springer, a double swing bay with flat seats and a basket swing. The existing cradle swings will also be updated with new chains and cradle seats. Re-surfacing will be carried out at the same time to allow safe access to the new equipment.

One of the main comments we received was that residents would like to see the internal fencing remain.  The reasons given for this was twofold, one was to keep children safe and contained whilst they are playing and also because the area is used by local residents for exercising their dogs.  Users will be pleased to hear that the fencing is to be replaced with new galvanized bow top fencing and new gates.

Terry Leech added: “By replacing the fence we can keep all users of this lovely green area happy and safe.”

Contractors will be on site before the end of March 2021 to make preparations for the commencement of work. In the meantime, if you have any queries or questions about the project please contact Terry Leech on 0300 100 1010 or email info@westwardhousing.org.uk
