Housing provider offers hope to those in south Devon

Local affordable housing provider, Westward, is working with Bloor Homes on a new development in Ivybridge to provide 14 shared ownership and 14 affordable rented homes.
The highly desirable properties are due to be available in November 2021 with further phases to follow. The 4 one-bed rental flats and 10 two and three-bed rental houses and the 14 two and three-bed shared ownership houses are provided working in partnership with Homes England and South Hams District Council.
Cllr Judy Pearce, South Hams District Council lead member and executive member for homes, commented: “It’s fantastic to see the progress here at Filham Chase and know that we are delivering on our promise to help more of our local residents to be able to buy or rent a home in their local community. Here is a great example of what our Joint Local Plan and working closely with Westward and Bloor Homes can help us to achieve.
As a council, we know that action must be taken to ensure that local people can afford to live in the communities they love, close to friends and family. That’s why we’re committed to demanding that new developments address the acute need for more affordable housing to help keep our communities full of life and strong.”
The Filham Chase estate is ideally located for commuters seeking affordable homes in the south Devon area with easy access to the A38. The homes are in easy distance of the historic Ivybridge town centre and border the outdoor idyll of Dartmoor. Some of the Westward properties will also feature green measures such as solar photovoltaic panels.
Westward’s chief executive, Barbara Shaw said, “These homes have proven to be very popular given their great location and we anticipate that as a fair-sized development it will help to affordably house local people. It has been a successful working partnership to help address the housing crisis which South Hams District Council declared in September. Little wonder when the average house price in Devon was £322,991 in August. We work tirelessly to help address this.”
At the time of writing, the shared ownership properties’ open market value ranges in price from £225,000 - £280,000. Rental prices for the one-bedroom flats for two people are £449.99 pcm.
