Black History Month

At Westward, we believe our communities are at their strongest when everyone feels included, heard and respected. Our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is more than just words, it’s embedded in how we deliver services, engage with customers and shape our culture.

This Black History Month, we are proud to celebrate the rich heritage and achievements of black people in the UK and beyond, and to reflect on how we can continue building communities where everyone belongs.

Black History Month is an opportunity to recognise the contributions that black communities have made across all areas of life, from arts and sciences to politics and local community initiatives. It is also a time to learn, reflect and challenge the inequalities that still exist today. At Westward, we see this as part of our ongoing responsibility to create an environment where people are treated with dignity, where barriers are removed and where equal access to opportunities is a reality. Recognising Black History Month helps us bring these values to life, strengthening the bonds within our communities and inspiring future generations.

We know that it’s not just about a single month, it is a reminder of the work we must continue all year round, reviewing our policies, listening to our communities and embedding inclusion into everything we do

This October, we invite you to pause to reflect on the heritage and achievements that Black History Month celebrates, to pay our respect to this heritage, inspire future generations and continue building communities where everyone feels they belong.
