Westward’s latest housing association development for Plymouth provides 13 affordable homes in Southway.

All the homes are for social rent and let through local housing list - Devon Home Choice. Six one-bedroom flats, one one-bedroom end of terrace bungalow and six two-bedroom houses are being matched to people on the list with priority need and a local connection to Plymouth.

The Moses Close and Heynscott Walk homes were constructed by local development partner, Classic Builders, who also recently completed 5 accessible homes for Westward at St Peter’s Close in Plympton.

The homes were funded through Homes England and recycled capital grant funding from Westward.

Classic Builders started on site in May 2023 and will hand over the site for residents to occupy during August 2024. The properties support Plymouth City Council’s housing strategy, Plan For Homes.

All properties benefit from photovoltaic solar panels to help make the homes more affordable to live in and support carbon net zero targets. The homes have a great energy assessment rating of B and use gas central heating.

Westward’s Chief Executive, Barbara Shaw, said,

“This project has been a long time reaching fruition due to the impact of the pandemic and an earlier contractor’s business collapse. I am delighted to see these 13 homes on a brownfield site realised. By working with local firm Classic Builders we are not only providing affordable housing but also supporting employment in the city.”

Plymouth City Councillor Chris Penberthy, Cabinet member for Housing, Communities and Cooperative Development, said: “It is brilliant news that these new homes are complete. I thank Westward and Classic Builders for all their hard work. This is another great example of strong partnership working. This is an opportunity to provide housing for local people in an accessible area with local amenities.”
