Neighbourhood Action Plan

Like many activities in the last 18 months, Covid 19 has affected our planned Neighbourhood Action projects.

Schemes at Great Western Close, Paignton, Snowberry Close, Torquay and Morwenna Park, Northam were all due to be completed by March 2021. Despite some delays, work to improve the areas has begun.

Great Western Close includes 105 mixed tenure tenancies and is close to beaches, parks and the steam railway.

The two main concerns voiced by customers were:

  • Parking issues caused by visitors to the nearby beaches and attractions.
    • A full consultation with customers took place earlier this summer and the results are being analysed.
  • Bin areas.
    • An estate clean-up day in February cleared more than 3 tonnes of rubbish from the scheme. The bin areas were cleared

During the project we have also looked at improving the green spaces to make them more environmentally friendly.

The improvement project is planned for completion by March 2022, subject to government restrictions due to Covid-19.

Morwenna Park in Northam, North Devon

You told us that you had concerns with fly-tipping and bin areas. So, we arranged a Community Action Day on Tuesday 2nd November 2021.

Although it was a very windy and wet day, we were able to dispose of bulky items and clean up communal areas. Customers visited the community centre, where they were able to talk to  Westward teams, Torridge District Council’s Environment team and Devon and Cornwall PCSOs.

There was a huge improvement to the bin areas as these pictures show.

A similar day of action has also been planned for Snowberry Close. We had hoped to do this before Christmas, but with new Covid restrictions coming in to force and the spread of the Omicron varient, we have taken to the decision to move this to the New Year.

If you would like us to consider your neighbourhood next year, please let us know.
