Partnership working creates affordable homes in Paignton
Westward’s latest phase of homes at Yannons Farm development in Paignton has completed 14 affordable properties including four for shared ownership.
The homes off Brixham Road, include four three-bedroom properties sold through Shared Ownership and 10 two and three bedroom properties for affordable rent.
These attractive homes have been built on the site of a former garden centre and are close to great local facilities including shops, leisure facilities and schools.
The homes have been delivered in partnership with Torbay Council and provide top quality affordable accommodation for local people, taken directly from housing waiting lists.
Westward Board member, Andy Melville, said:: “There is a real need for affordable homes in Torbay, especially for low-cost home ownership. The average cost of a new home in the town is more than 10 times the average income, so the Help to Buy South West scheme has a vital role to play in allowing people to get onto the property ladder.”
“Partnership working is so important to help provide affordable homes for local people,” explained Councillor Richard Haddock, from the Torbay Council.
He went on to say, High house prices and low average wages makes it incredibly difficult for people to get on the housing ladder and by working together this is a great opportunity for us to let those who dream of owning their own home turn that aspiration into reality.
